8 Mom Self-Care Products That Make Me Feel Slightly More Human

Before becoming a mom, I thought self-care meant bubble baths, spa days, getting my nails done, and leisurely drinking a latte while wandering around Target.

Now?

Self-care is drinking my coffee while it’s still hot.

It’s taking a shower without someone yelling “MOM!” through the door.

It’s putting on moisturizer before collapsing into bed instead of deciding that my face can simply fend for itself.

Motherhood has definitely changed my definition of self-care.

And while buying a few products certainly isn't going to magically make the laundry disappear or convince my children that they do, in fact, know where their shoes are, there are a few little things that make me feel more relaxed, comfortable, and — dare I say it — like an actual person.

Here are 8 mom self-care products I genuinely think are worth having around.

comfy bath robe

There is something about putting on a ridiculously soft robe that immediately makes me feel like I have my life together.

Do I actually have my life together?

That's not important.

A comfy robe is perfect for slow mornings, after showers, or throwing on after the kids go to bed when I'm officially done wearing real clothes for the day.

It's basically a socially acceptable blanket with sleeves.

And honestly, that's exactly the kind of fashion I'm interested in at this stage of life.

satin pajama set

For years, my nighttime wardrobe consisted of old T-shirts and whatever pair of shorts I could find.

Then I discovered the joy of owning a matching satin pajama set.

Suddenly I'm not just a tired mom going to bed.

I'm a sophisticated woman retiring for the evening.

Never mind the pile of laundry sitting three feet away.

A satin pajama set feels cool, comfortable, and just fancy enough to make bedtime feel like a tiny act of self-care.

Bonus: matching pajamas make me feel significantly more put together despite the fact that my hair is in a messy bun and I'm probably carrying a basket of unmatched socks.

face mud mask

Nothing says “I'm taking care of myself” quite like walking around the house with mud smeared all over your face while your children stare at you like you've completely lost it.

I love a good mud mask because it forces me to slow down for a few minutes.

Put it on, grab a drink, sit down, and relax.

Or, more realistically, put it on and unload the dishwasher.

Either way, my skin is getting some attention.

I'll take it.

shower steamers

I love the idea of long, relaxing baths.

But sometimes I just don't have the time.

That's why shower steamers are one of my favorite easy self-care products.

You toss one into the shower, let the scent fill the bathroom, and suddenly your normal shower feels slightly more spa-like.

No appointments.

No elaborate routine.

No need to leave the house.

Just a nice-smelling shower and hopefully five uninterrupted minutes.

skincare set

There was a time when my skincare routine involved multiple steps and products.

Then I had kids.

Now some nights I'm proud of myself for remembering to wash my face.

Having a simple skincare set makes it much easier for me to actually stick with a routine.

It doesn't have to take 30 minutes.

Even spending five minutes taking care of my skin before bed helps me mentally switch out of Mom Mode and do something for myself.

Plus, there's something strangely satisfying about having all of your skincare products lined up neatly on the bathroom counter.

slippers

If I'm home, I'm probably wearing slippers.

I've reached the stage of life where receiving a really good pair of slippers as a gift is genuinely exciting.

Soft lining?

Cushioned sole?

Memory foam?

Say no more.

A cozy pair of slippers makes early mornings, late-night kitchen cleanups, and wandering around the house picking up random socks approximately 47% more enjoyable.

Are slippers technically self-care?

I'm saying yes.

tub pillow

On the rare occasion that I actually get to take a bath, I want to commit to the experience.

And a tub pillow makes a huge difference.

Instead of trying to relax with my head resting against the world's least comfortable piece of porcelain, I can actually lean back.

Add some bubbles, dim the lights, bring a drink, and suddenly the bathroom becomes a mom sanctuary.

Will someone eventually knock on the door and ask where the ketchup is?

Probably.

But until then, we're relaxing.

hair curler

Sometimes self-care isn't about relaxing.

Sometimes it's simply doing something that makes you feel a little more like you again.

For me, doing my hair can be one of those things.

A good hair curler makes it easy to throw a few curls in my hair without spending an hour getting ready.

Do I curl my hair every day?

Absolutely not.

But when I have somewhere to go — or I just want to feel a little more put together — curling my hair can give me that tiny confidence boost I didn't realize I needed.

And if the curls last into the next day?

That's basically a gift from the universe.

Self-Care Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

I think moms sometimes hear the words self-care and immediately picture expensive spa days, weekend getaways, or elaborate morning routines.

And those things sound wonderful.

Please invite me.

But realistically, self-care can also look like:

Drinking enough water.

Taking a hot shower.

Putting on comfortable pajamas.

Using a heating pad while watching Netflix.

Spending ten quiet minutes doing something that makes you feel good.

The little things count.

Because when you're constantly taking care of everyone else, it's incredibly easy to put yourself at the very bottom of the list.

You deserve a few things that are just for you — even if one of those things is simply a ridiculously soft pair of pajamas and ten uninterrupted minutes on the couch.

And if you're currently reading this while hiding from your children somewhere in your house...

I fully support you.

Mom self-care counts — even when it happens five minutes at a time.
